Ramabanta

hey all, so this weekend i went on a site visit to a current volunteer's site and it was great. absolutely beautiful. we were nestled in the "foothills" which so are basically mountains and the site was gorgeous. also we had an actual toliet that flushed so it was great!! i peed literally 10 times a day. we also hiked up one of the mountains and the view was breathtaking, it was basically a backpacker's paradise. i really wanted to up load some pictures but due to time constraints, computer issues and a plethora of other restirctions, that will have to wait. this past week we did a HIV/AIDS workshops and how it is affecting lesotho and all the problems that go along with it. basically AIDS is devastating this country and it is sooo sad because the problems are basic but get really complicated once this disease if factored in. Also the culture here approaches everything in life so differently from our own, it is hard to always understand why they do the things they do, but getting to accept it will be a challenge. anywho on a brighter note, only 4 more weeks of training and i have my first interview this week about site placements, in which i'm totally requesting electricity! but cooking on a gas stove hasn't been too bad. oh! one quick thing before i go, nutrition people, what disease/deficiency to people have when the whites of thier eyes turn yellow??? i've been racking my brain and every other person here has yellow whites. just send me an email if you can with a little explantion would be great!! alas i must go there is so much more i want to share though! i love you all and miss everyone

Allison, it's hard to believe you're really on the other side of the world! I'm already enjoying hearing about everything you're experiencing--foods, language, people, lack of amenities :)...and I'll be looking forward to more stories to come!

Hi Allison, I've have to admit, I've never seen a "blog" before or have never participated in one. This is so cool. I can't wait for the the pics to be added. It's so great to read about your journey in Africa. Hey, I'm not a health expert, but have aquired some experience in the past 11 yrs of motherhood. You asked about the yellow colored eyes. In the hospital after your baby is born the doctors want to keep an eye out for yellowing skin or eyes because it is a symptom of juandice (sign of liver malfunction or disease). Hope this might help. Hugs and kisses for the kiddos. Love Chris
