African Love Ninjas

as of last night the most creepy thing has happened in my african stay. let's begin on monday night. me and my friend rachael were walking back from having dinner at anohter volunteer's house, and it is pitch black and we are walking by a corn feild and here a rustling in the feild. we shine our flashlight to see nothing in there. the noise increases. we are now running home. we get to racheal's and i'm like what the hell was that???? we can't figure it out so i brush it off and swiftly walk my ass home. so fast forward to last night. again i went to the same volunteer's (becky's) house for dinner with racheal and two of the boys in our group, andre and nick. so again it is time to go home and i am a little weary because of my previous experince walking past that very cornfield. also and since my friend nick is, let's say, and outdoorsy type of person and knows about hiking and stuff like that is like "the moon is bright enough so we don't need our flashlights" and i'm like "like hell i don't" however i eventually concede once i realize that the flashlights would draw unnessecary attention to our group and the moon was good enough light to walk home with. as we were walking by the very same field we notice some dark shapes in the feild and hear the same rustling noise. i'm basically clawing into andre's arm by now and am like "we best be running now" so we scramble up the hill to racheal's house to drop her off and while we are standing outside her house we see the dark ninja type figures scurry up the hill from the field. while we are waiting for nick to come back from checking out racheal's room to make sure everything is okay, me and andre are like "what the hell is going on with these guys???" as they are running up the hill. they can't possibly be harvesting corn at night, so that is ruled out. so next thing are they harvesting some other type of dominat plant they could only be harvested by the moon light if you catch my drift, no, because in Lesotho with an AIDS rate of 23% they are not too worried about the harvesting of such crops. then it dawns on us. in a country of secretive sex, we figure out what they are doing, i'll leave the rest up to your imagination. so these black mysterious, aka "ninja" figures were actually just doing what they do and we white folk, a glowing in the night simply scared the living daylights out of them. and that is my entry for today...

That's a good story. I think that would have scared the crappola out of me as well.

It must be be rather sucky having to resort to corn fields for secret romance.

I finally started reading Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close per your recommendation. Almost done and it's really good so thanks!!

Hope you're having a great experience thus far. I keep telling people about your adventures in Africa because I think it's so cool and brave!
